Yes! Corp BBQ Leaving Kansas City’s Power & Light

A story by the Kansas City Star today says Famous Dave’s is leaving the Kansas City Power & Light District.  Thank you, God.  The last thing I ever wanted to happen was for some poor out-of-towner to think that was Kansas City BBQ.  Jeez.

Good riddance.  Adieu.  Bon voyage.

American Royal Barbeque

This weekend is the “World Series of Barbeque” here in Kansas City.  (I just noticed it’s been a while since I’ve had a BBQ post.  Too bad for us all.)  If you need to find me tonight I’ll be with my wife down at the American Royal Barbeque Festival.  I haven’t been to this particular one in years.  Seems like something always comes up at the last minute.

But I will be there tonight come heck or high water.  You can find out more about the even here.  Hope to see you there.

Tidbits & Asides Regarding Kansas City & Real Estate Investing

  • Tomorrow is the Rent & Rehab Workshop I’ve been talking about.  I’m expecting a good turnout.  Hopefully it will be worth their while.
  • After the workshop I’m showing a California real estate investor around looking at properties that will hopefully meet his criteria since he’s flying out all this way.  I’m still trying to decide which barbecue to take him to.
  • Kansas Jayhawk basketball practice started yesterday since they are going to Canada in a week or so for one of those “international” pre-season games.  A good chance for the young me to get started.
  • Is Canada really international?
  • I’ve noticed that searches for real estate investment property in Kansas City is down slightly on the analytics package I use.  Is this because of financing?  Fear?  Lack of interest?  It’s summer time?  I’m curious as to what you think.
  • The Royals are in another tailspin.  I guess this means another win streak is right around the corner.
  • The airshow is in town this weekend.  If I can spare a moment I’ll get out and watch the Thunderbirds on Sunday.  I love those guys.
  • One of my favorite property managers has announced to me that he is selling out to another property manager I know.   That’s too bad.  Or at least that’s what I think at this moment.  Hopefully I will be proved wrong.  But I usually like where there is healthy competition.

A Successful Few Days In Kansas City

Early, and I mean early, this morning I put Jeff & Josh Brown back on the plane to San Diego, California.  While they were here I had a chance to show them that Kansas City does have wireless internet in their hotel rooms, running water to houses and buildings made out of other materials than sod.

Jeff BrownOn the business front Saturday saw two very successful investment workshops conducted by Jeff.  Feedback from those that attended has been positive.  There is a hunger in the market to know all they can regarding their real estate investing present and future. hg.jpg

And also on Friday I think Jeff was impressed with some of what Kansas City real estate investment housing has to offer.

From a barbeque standpoint Jeff & Josh got to experience Arthur Bryant’s, BB’s Lawnside and Oklahoma Joe’s Bar-B-Q’s.  You’ll have to ask Jeff which he preferred.  I’ve emailed him a photo of him standing in front of a real BBQ pit at BB’s.  Now he understands how BBQ is made.  🙂

The photos are from BB’s.  (Athol, I was using a small point & shoot in low light.  So forgive the lack of quality.)  🙂

Odds & (Burnt) Ends

I have suspected this was going on at unprecedented levels and now I have confirmation from today’s Kansas City Star.  The Star reports in the Business section that CountryWide Financial Corp helped 81,266 borrowers renegotiate their terms to allow them to stay in their homes.

First, this just seems smarter than taking the real estate back.  Second, it shows there is a movement by the free market to correct it’s own mistakes.  And third, the borrowers will benefit, at least in the short term.

John PaulI’m picking up Jeff & Josh Brown today from KCI.  For anyone interested, we’ll be atBB’s Lawnside BBQ tonight.  We’ll probably get there around 7:00.  John Paul’s Flying Circus will be performing.  Maybe we’ll see you there.

For a late lunch I’m taking him to Arthur Byrant’s.  It’s my hope we’ll put 20 lbs on them before they leave.

Anyone else tired of all the snow?  And the kids are out, again.  Ugh.

Watch carefully for the new construction homes announcement next week.  I’ll be unveiling it this Saturday to the workshop attendees.  Whatever is left will be on this blog.

Update, BBQ & Guesses

uc.jpg

Please pardon the mess while BBQ Capital is still under construction.  You will note that the blogroll has been broken down into two categories;

  1. “Regular” real estate
  2. Real estate investment sites

You will also note that there are several new additions to the reading list.  Some I read often.  Some I just catch up on.  A couple I really, really like the content.  A couple I just really like the REALTOR.  Either way, you should visit and form your own opinions.

Arthur Bryant’s

On the Wednesday before Thanksgiving I took my 15 year old out to his very first visit of the original Arthur Bryant’s.  It’s located downtown not too far from the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.   As usual, the food was fabulous.  The line was incredibly long, however, what with all the visitors to our city wanting a taste of the food that has fed several Presidents including Jimmy Carter and Harry Truman.  (Though I notice he tends to only put up the photos of the Democrats.)  🙂

If you haven’t experienced AB’s you should.  It’s simply a cultural event to eat there.  The newer Arthur Bryant’s are good, too.  Just not the original.

This should be a very busy week for real estate investors.  In fact, the next couple of weeks could show us some really good values.  I’ll have to wait and see.  But I know I’m right.

American Royal Barbecuelooza This Weekend

I can’t say as I know very much about horses and rodeos. But I do know bbq. And there is a very exciting weekend coming up down at the American Royal.

Barbecuelooza will be kicking off at 3:00 pm on Friday, October 5 and again on Saturday, October 6 at 10:00 am.

Yeah. There’s music. Fireworks. And horses, I guess. But more importantly there will be bbq. And lots of it!

Come hungry. You won’t be disappointed. For more information on this subject visit this site.
